Understanding the thermal behaviour of your product and identification of the key freeze drying parameters is vital for successful processing. To help you overcome all your freeze drying difficulties we operate a dedicated on-site freeze drying laboratory. Services include product characterisation, formulation development, moisture analyses, cycle design and optimisation, process scale-up, troubleshooting and small-scale production runs.
Our strength comes from our extensive expertise in freeze drying a vast range of products, from small drug molecules to large complex biomolecules, foods, tissues, archaeological artefacts, living organisms and cells. We have successfully freeze dried over 750 different products with different characteristics and requirements.
This experience enables us to understand which excipients will provide favourable thermal and mechanical characteristics suitable to each individual formulation and to advise process parameters for robust and efficient freeze drying.
Thorough product characterisation is the foundation for all successful freeze drying, and our laboratory is equipped with a range of analytical instrumentation to allow us to conduct freeze drying-specific analyses such freeze drying microscopy, differential thermal analysis (DTA), impedance analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (mDSC), frequency modulated spectroscopy (FMS), and Karl Fisher. We also use a number of pilot-scale freeze dryers equipped with sophisticated in-process monitoring and feedback systems.
